Prabhas has received a major birthday surprise from the makers of Kalki 2898 AD 2.
As the actor turned 47 on October 23, 2026, director Nag Ashwin and the team behind the sci-fi epic released a special video teasing Prabhas’ return as Bhairava.
The 32-second birthday video gives fans their first glimpse of Bhairava’s return to the futuristic world of Kalki 2898 AD. While the makers deliberately keep most of his new appearance hidden, the clip confirms that Bhairava is back — along with his futuristic vehicle, Bujji.
Bhairava Is Back
As the preparations continue, Prabhas enters the frame wearing Bhairava’s familiar futuristic armour. The words “Bhairava is back” appear on screen, immediately turning the birthday tribute into the first promotional glimpse of the sequel.
Prabhas then gets into Bujji, the futuristic vehicle that became one of the most recognisable elements of the first movie.
Director Nag Ashwin can be heard calling “Action”, suggesting that the footage was captured around the filming process rather than being a conventional trailer.
Prabhas Gets a More Rugged Bhairava Look
Although the video does not provide a complete character reveal, fans get brief glimpses of Prabhas’ appearance.
The actor is seen with longer hair and a beard, while the familiar armour brings back Bhairava’s futuristic bounty-hunter identity. The makers have intentionally used silhouettes and limited shots instead of showing everything at once.
That decision has made the short video even more intriguing because the sequel’s story and Bhairava’s exact role remain largely under wraps.
What Happened to Bhairava in the First Film?
In Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas played Bhairava, a bounty hunter living in the dystopian future. Initially presented as a swaggering and humorous character, Bhairava became much more important to the mythology by the end of the film.
The first movie revealed a major connection between Bhairava and Karna, the legendary warrior from the Mahabharata.
That revelation created a much bigger question for the sequel: What will Bhairava’s true identity mean for the war between the forces surrounding Kalki?
The sequel is expected to continue from the events of the first film.
Bujji Returns Alongside Bhairava
Bujji also makes an appearance in the birthday video. The futuristic AI-powered vehicle became a fan favourite after the first movie and was closely associated with Bhairava.
Seeing Prabhas return to Bujji in the new footage confirms that the character’s familiar partnership with the vehicle will continue into the sequel.
Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan Return
Prabhas isn’t the only major star returning for the next chapter.
Amitabh Bachchan is expected to reprise his role as Ashwatthama, while Kamal Haasan returns as Supreme Yaskin.
Both characters are crucial to the larger conflict established in the first movie.
The sequel is therefore expected to expand the mythology and the futuristic world introduced by Nag Ashwin rather than simply continue Bhairava’s bounty-hunting adventures.
What About Deepika Padukone?
One major change is already known.
Deepika Padukone, who played SUM-80/Sumathi in the first film, has exited the sequel.
There has been speculation about other actresses joining the project, including names such as Sai Pallavi and Alia Bhatt. However, Nag Ashwin previously clarified that the sequel would not introduce new characters, while details about how the story handles Sumathi’s absence remain undisclosed.
When Will Kalki 2898 AD 2 Release?
At present, the makers have not announced an official theatrical release date for Kalki 2898 AD 2. The birthday video is primarily a character and behind-the-scenes glimpse rather than a release-date announcement.
The latest update does, however, confirm that the next chapter is actively moving forward with Prabhas back as Bhairava.
Why This Birthday Video Matters
The biggest takeaway from the new footage is simple:
Bhairava is back.
The makers haven’t revealed the entire look, storyline or release date yet. Instead, they have given fans just enough to confirm Prabhas’ return and reignite curiosity around the character.
After the first film’s Karna revelation, Bhairava’s role in the larger Kalki mythology is arguably more important than ever.
And with Ashwatthama and Supreme Yaskin also returning, the next chapter could take the franchise into an even larger conflict.
